The Ukrainian master of sports in swimming, Mikhail Romanishin, intends to set a record by swimming in a month the Ukrainian section of the Dnieper from the border with Belarus to the Black Sea.
“The swim will begin on August 5 on the border with Belarus, and the finish will, tentatively, take place in 27-30 days in the area where the Dnieper flows into the Black Sea,” a press release distributed to journalists said.
At a press conference at the Interfax-Ukraine agency on Thursday, Romanishin noted that the start will take place in the village of Strakholesye, Kiev region, near the border with Belarus, he will finish in the Kherson Glory Park. According to him, the approximate distance that he has to overcome is almost 1000 km.

The swim along the Dnieper is the first stage of the project, in a year Mikhail Romanishin plans to swim to cross the Black Sea on the route Odessa-Istanbul.
Implementation of the project will allow the formation of a charitable foundation to help young gifted athletes of Ukraine and conduct research in the field of ecology and biology.
“The project pursues several goals, but first of all it is drawing attention to the environmental problems of the Dnieper, popularizing sports among our citizens and creating a charity fund to help children,” said project organizer Maxim Urakin.

The team of Mikhail Romanishin includes the honored coach of Ukraine in swimming Karen Abramov. “The swim will give unique information about the reactions of the human body to prolonged physical activity and prolonged exposure to water. We will study how much a person can adapt to a temperature of water that is lower than air temperature, what can be a person’s psychological state when the swim lasts about a month for 12 hours a day in any weather, “Karen Abramov explained.

During the swim, the Romanishin team will monitor the state of water in the Dnieper. According to the preliminary program of the swim, the athlete will cover about 30 km daily and swim for about 12 hours.
He will be followed by an escort group, which includes his trainer, and a special machine will bring equipment for sleeping and food to certain points. The athlete will also be accompanied by water police patrols.
Swimmer Mikhail Romanishin added that he would like to use his example to distract children from unhealthy habits and turn their attention to playing sports. “In order for our country to continue to have Olympic champions in swimming and other sports, the efforts of both business and authorities are needed, without this the population will continue to decline,” Mikhail Romanishin said.

Ironman, a multiple participant in international competitions, Dmitry Strizhov, decided to support M. Romanishin and swim with him at one of the stages of the project.
Experts from the National Register of Ukraine Records will record the swimmer’s achievement.
The next stage of the project will be a swim in the Black Sea from Odessa to Istanbul, which the team plans to implement in 2020.
